Men Claim They Prefer The Natural Look, But Are Really Attracted to the Opposite (+ more fun dating findings)

What do the dating experts say about the early stages of dating and more seriously, relationships? Here are a couple of fascinating findings and shocking stats that are yielded from numerous of psychological experiments (I don’t agree with all of these, but it would be bias for me to only include what I agree with!)

Here’s one interesting fact that I didn’t know was true: relationships derived from a workplace have a huge success rate. I guess the whole saying: “don’t shit where you eat” might not be true after all? 40% of romances that started at the dearest cubicle have resulted in marriages. (I guess maybe we shouldn’t be bumming it at work, after all!)

kimkAnother interesting fact (that I will be elaborating about in one of my future articles): men ALWAYS say they prefer the “natural” look. I get constant criticism from my Dad for wearing makeup (I remember I had to arrive 15 minutes early to my senior year of high school because I had to secretly put on makeup). Guess what? Studies reveal the complete opposite. MTV’s Girl Code reports that “natural” to most men is Kim Kardashian. Uhm, are you aware of how much makeup Kim K wears? Don’t get me wrong: I’m not a hater! I think she’s incredibly beautiful without all the makeup (thanks to her marvelous jaw structure). But come on guys, she’s ALWAYS wearing a TON of makeup and even said in a Vogue interview: “I don’t recognize myself without makeup”. TLC and Chemistry.com found that women in a bar will be approached 6 minutes faster if they caked on a ton of makeup, vs wearing minimal.

Here are 12 additional facts!

  • Lisa Daily reports that most couples get into an “exclusive” relationship after 6 to 8 dates.
  • Men who reported an income of higher than $250,000 on dating sites received 156% more emails than those with $50,000. Similarly, women who posted a photo received twice as many messages.
  • Daily also suggests that men are well aware of when they’re falling for someone as soon as 3 dates in. Women take A LOT longer, around 14 dates.
  • Immediately after Tiger Wood’s affairs became public, men looking for discreet relationships on BeNaughty.com dropped by 47.5%.
  • Psychologists at UPenn report that people know within the first 3 seconds if they’ll engage in some sexual fun with you BUT…finalizing into the relationship stage is an excruciating process of thinking “are they worth it?”, meeting the parents, etc.
  • Being “too skinny” has a similar negative connotation as being overweight.
  • Italian and Chinese food are favorites on first dates, according to Askmen.com.
  • The most common time for breakups is around 3-5 months.
  • MSBNC.com and Elle magazine report that more than 31% of men dumped a woman for being overweight, with only 12% of women doing the same.
  • On a free dating site, it’s reported that at least 10% of the accounts are from scammers (I once knew of a guy who was talking to this “model” from LA via okcupid.com and guess what? He saw that model (aka the girl in the pic) at a party and she had no idea who he was when he approached her. Scammer alert!!!)
  • Hear this surprising fact: women reported that they need much more personal space in a relationship, with 93% of them saying it’s very vital to them and only 81% of men saying the same thing (I thought stereotype had it that women were the needy ones?)
  • TLC and Chemistry.com report that men like their women to be “60 pounds lighter” than they really are (wow, that’s A LOT).

What do you think of these results produced by numerous of psychological experiments?/ DO you disagree with any of them? Were any of them shocking to you?

Chrissy
