1. Phineas Gage – A Case of Personality Reassignment
Phineas Gage was working on a railroad in Vermont when an explosion caused a railroad spike to drive through his head. Amazingly, Gage survived but his pre-frontal cortex was severely damaged and he was blind in his left eye. After the incident, Gages’ personality drastically changed; he had previously been described as a smart, active business man with ‘considerable energy of character’ but his accident had caused him to become childish, disrespectful and disorganised.
