5 Psychological Creative Writing Tips To Help Improve Your Story
-
Switch between details and broad lines
This might seem very obvious, but don’t describe everything broadly or everything into detail. It’s best to switch between the two. You can sketch the surroundings quickly and in big lines, for example: a chaotic, busy square.
You can also zoom in, for example in the square you could have some of the following. A big rat that pinched some food and is now trying to slip away to escape being flattened by all the feet. The smell of fresh bread from the baking stall. Two people haggling over the price of a batch of fruit. The possibilities are endless.
When you zoom in and out, and describe the location in broad lines as well as details, it creates dynamic and variation in your text. Your reader will be stimulated more, which makes the story come alive.
