Sublimation
Sometimes people have hidden desires of feelings that they might think it’s socially unacceptable to act them out. Sublimation offers a way out of that. This type of ego defense mechanism finds a channel for usually socially unacceptable feelings to be expressed in a more acceptable manner. For example, a person would always want to have sex. As a form of reaction formation, he takes a jog whenever he gets the urge.
