9 Characters Who May Have Undiagnosed Mental Disorder

Captain Hook of Peter Pan and the Lost Boys

The general impression the audience have on Captain Hook is that of a bitter and very eccentric old pirate who doesn’t want anyone of the lost boys to have fun. But digging deeper into the history and the behavior of Hook, things makes much more sense. Captain Hook lost his hand to Peter Pan, who fed the decapitated hand to the same crocodile that keeps on pestering him. The consequent jitters he gets when he hears the ticking that signals the croc’s arrival is an indicator that Captain Hook is suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Symptoms of the anxiety disorder are also evident, such as his sensitivity to sound, and his overall state of anxiety if his stressor (the crocodile) is present. Though now we understand where all the rage for the Lost Boys comes from, it still does not excuse his behavior.
