7 Ways To Achieve Your Goals
Hey, Psych2goers! New Year is approaching. Do you have any New Year goals and resolutions? We’ll be exploring ways to achieve goals that you may have on your list. Stay tuned!
1. Make them approachable
According to a career website, Indeed, one of the common ways to start with is being SMART. Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-based. The key is to ensure that you are able to reach your realistic goals and not something that is overly abstract or difficult to begin with. If it is too challenging in the first place, you may experience the hardship of overcoming it (Indeed Editorial Team. 2021).
2. Plan them out
Now, you have your goals, but what should you do next? Indeed suggests cutting your goals into smaller portions so that you can slowly achieve them. The smaller the subgoals are, the more likely you are going to pay attention to them every day or every week. Because of the consistent habit of focusing on small subgoals, you can eventually fulfill your ultimate goal. Including deadlines per goal is also a useful idea to keep track of your achievements (Indeed Editorial Team. 2021).
3. Be flexible
Although we wish our plan goes smoothly, sometimes, it is not always the case. For example, if you plan to complete several goals at the same time but cannot due to school, work or any other unexpected circumstances, you may have to re-adjust how you can finish them in another arrangement of your plan (Indeed Editorial Team. 2021).
4. Stay motivated
Yes, following goals can become exhausting after an extended amount of concentration. However, we can imagine how we may be after accomplishing the goals. Do you see yourself as a better person? Will you be proud of yourself for all the hard work you have done? These thoughts can potentially motivate you in the journey. If you are able to maintain your subgoals and goals, why not treat yourself to a dessert once in a while to encourage yourself (Indeed Editorial Team. 2021)?
5. Ask for help
It is never a bad idea to ask someone to assist with your goal achievement process. First, you can find an accountability partner, someone who has your back and supports every step you take for your goal. Second, if you happen to know someone who has the wisdom and expertise, don’t hesitate to learn from their experiences and seek advice (Forbes Coaches Council, 2021).
6. Think backwards
Some people may create plans from the beginning and from scratch. However, not everyone accomplishes goals the same way. According to Linda Martin from Linda Martin Results, she suggests thinking backwards, such as picturing the final result first and then looking at the next steps in a backward manner. At the same time, it is still crucial to enjoy the process and experiences that you may gain (Forbes Coaches Council, 2021). Would any of you be interested in trying this method?
7. Be organized
Having a schedule in order may come in handy. For instance, take a look at your school schedule, the first hour is English. Then, the second hour is science. By using that arrangement for your goals, you can focus the achievement by writing down a starting and ending time per task. This helps you get closer to your goals and avoid distractions (Forbes Coaches Council, 2021).
Conclusion
Will you use any of the points above to achieve your goals? What is your favorite one? Have a Happy New Year, Psych2goers!
