England Study Concludes: Males Spend a Year of Their Life Ogling at Females

Do you think we gave Barack Obama, President of the United States of America and a married man, too difficult of a time when numerous articles blew up in 2009 about him getting caught checking out some Brazilian buttocks in Italy (Reed, 2009)?

Mark Ireland, a researcher from Kodak Lens Vision Centres, carried out a study that interviewed 3,000 British individuals, questioning females and males on how often they gawk at the opposite sex.

Shockingly, 1/3 of the poll members ended up arguing with their partner over their wandering eyes, with one in 10 having going as far as breaking up with their partner because of it (yikes).

On a more positive note, 35% of Brits shared they started a relationship with someone they eyed-up.

The research poll suggested that men, between the ages of 18 and 50, spend an average of 43 minutes a day eyeing members of the opposite sex. That sums up to 259 hours – almost 11 days – each year, making a total 11 months and 11 days.

However, researchers found that the male species are not the only ones admiring the opposite sex, as women glance at six men for an average sum of 20 minutes a day. That calculates to women, between the ages of 18 and 50, ogling men for nearly a six-month duration in their lifetime.

Most female participants of the study shared it was a fella’s dazzling eyes that first drew their gaze. With men, it was a lady’s physical figure (Ani, 2009).

For men, the top five spots for them to eye up a women are: supermarkets, pub/bars, nightclubs, work and shops. For women, the top five spots are: pub/bars, shops public transportation, supermarkets and work (“Men Spend Almost A Year…”, n.d.).

While the majority of men and women can admit to feeling flattered when they’re getting glazed at, men are more likely to enjoy it as 19% of the poll members stated it makes them feel happy, compared to the 9% of women stating the same feeling.

16% of these female poll members shared that getting checked out makes them feel uncomfortable, while 20% said it embarrasses them (Ani, 2009).

Referencing back to the question in the beginning of this article, would you be empathetic if your partner was caught glancing at the gender he/she romantically prefers? Or would you be like the other 1,000 Brits who argued with their partners?
