Happy National Coffee Day: Let’s Celebrate With Some 5 Fun Facts
Coffee is consumed by 90% of adults daily and opinions on the health benefits of coffee are constantly changing. However, there are ways coffee can be beneficial in addition to the perks of the wake-me-up:
1.Coffee consumption has been linked to reducing the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Researches at UCLA have studied that coffee consumption increases plasma levels of the protein sex hormone-binging globulin (SHBG), which is responsible for the the biological activity of testosterone and estrogen; these hormones have a direct correlation with the development of type 2 diabetes. A recent study at Harvard with 120,000 men and women showed hose who increased the amount of caffeinated coffee they drank per day by more than one 8-ounce cup, on average, were 11 percent less likely to develop type 2 diabetes than those whose coffee habits stayed the same. The study also showed that the ones who decreased their daily intake were 17 percent more likely to develop diabetes.
