The Movie World & Psychology
A couple of years ago I took a class at my university about films, but it wasn’t just any class. It was a course dedicated to analyzing movies with different psychological theories. Personally this class was an eye opener and ever since then I have not been able to see films the same way. I know there are many movie fanatics out there who are fond of films as much as I do. So, I have put together a short movie list that was suggested to me by my professor, where you can observe numerous psychological theories.
Movies about the conscious state:
- The Machinist (2004)
- Lost in Translation (2003)
- Inception (2010)
Movies about behavioral modification:
- Naranja Mecanica (1971)
- One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975)
- White Ribbon (2009)
Movies about memory:
- Memento (2001)
- Spellbound (1945)
- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
Movies about the human development:
- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)
- Babies (2010)
- About Schimtz (2002)
Movies about psychosis and suicide:
- The Barbarian Invasion (2003)
- He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not (2002)
- Black Swan (2010)
Movies about personality disorders:
- Amelie (2001)
- Royal Tenennauns (2001)
- Mortal Transfer (2001)
Movies about the development of gender and sexual orientation:
- Normal (2003)
- Before Night Falls (200)
- Eyes Wide Open (2009)
Movies about social psychology:
- Hotel Rwanda (2004)
- Babel (2006)
- The Reader (2008)
Now-a-days movies contribute to our philosophical thinking. Through cinema society can observe the human complexity. Films are an excellent tool, and if used right you can learn many things you would otherwise be ignorant to. The best part of watching films is that not only it’s an eye opener, but you can see the points of views from different countries. What are your thoughts about films and psychology? Are there other movies you would like to suggest? If so comment on the bottom of this page.
