Meet Yumika Tsui, Editor Behind Our Psychologists Interview Series

Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Yumika Tsui, the editor behind our Psychologists Interview Series. We thought we celebrate our 10th interview by featuring the very person behind our work!
Let’s go!
Tell us a bit about yourself and what you love most about doing these interviews.
I have been a part of psych2go for around one month now. Prior to helping with the interviews, I am a pharmacy technician who’s trying to find herself at the moment. While working with psychologists and reading articles on psychologytoday.com, I’ve been able to learn more about us humans.

What I love about doing interviews is talking to people and getting a better understanding of how our mind and body works. You’ll be surprised to figure out how much we don’t know in this world.

What would you say are the biggest take away from each one?

I think the biggest take away from each author is knowledge. The more you know the more you learn. It’s true when they say you’ll never stop learning.

Do you have a particular interview that you enjoyed? And why?

This is a hard question. I was able to take main points from each author I contacted. All of them taught me something useful in life. Just like Stanley Coren, I have 4 dogs at home so being able to understand that dogs feel the same emotions as humans was pretty interesting. Or Randi Gunther and how incredible love with her first love and understanding how to keep a relationship going.

How do you find people to interview? Can you walk us through the challenges and success you had?

First off, I know authors are super busy people and there was going to be a chance of no replies or rejection. That was something I had to prepare for and know that if they didn’t reply it would be okay. I started off with finding topics and blog post that caught my attention. I focused on emotions, relationships, love, anxiety and everything I could relate myself to. From then on I would read more about the author’s profile and see how experience they are, how long they have been in the field for etc. I like to do additional research and usually i’ll read more about the interviews they had in the past to make sure i would ask different questions. I also like to read a little bit about the books they have written to get a sense of their writing style.

Lastly, what are your passions? What do you enjoy doing most?

My passion is to follow my dreams. I have a huge list of goals that I want to accomplish by a certain age. The world out here is gigantic, and I realize and figured out that I should stop limiting myself. It’s all about taking risk, learning and improving who you are and who you want to become. Usually, when i’m not at work, I like to spend the sunny days taking my dogs out for a walk. While summer is just around the corner, I can’t wait to go on hikes and enjoy the nature again.

What are some of your future plans?

At this very moment I don’t even know yet. I want to travel the world and explore all the different cultures. I would continue working here on psych2go for as long as I can as well. Let’s see what fate has in stores for me

Lastly, what are you like as a person? Share with us your three best personality traits!

If you were met me in person I am super shy and awkward. I don’t open up that easily and I am a introvert so i’m really bad at starting converstaions. If you were to talk to me through emails or text, I am very open and i’ll become an extrovert. Aside from that, i’m an Aries so i’m stubborn and competitive when it comes to things. I also like being a leader and taking on the role of different tasks. My best three personality trait is organized, hard working and friendly.
If one of our audience wants to get in touch with you, what’s the best way to do that?

You can reach me at my email: tsui.yumika@gmail.com and I would be more than happy to answer your questions.
