Top 12 Scary Sleep Disorders!
- Exploding Head Syndrome
Ok, so this one is nowhere near as dramatic as it sounds, but still freaks quite a lot of people out. EHS consists of a loud noise you will suddenly hear as you fall asleep, seeming like an explosion has gone off right next to your head! Some people describe it as cymbals crashing, while others may hear something similar to a gunshot. This loud noise will very rarely cause pain and can also occur when a person is waking in the middle of the night. Although painless, it can arouse a sense of fear and extreme distress, leading some people to believe that they may be having a stroke. It may also be accompanied by a flash of light or muscle twitches. Although the exact cause isn’t known, some scientists believe that a possible cause is a minor seizure in the temporal lobe of the brain (Jacome, 2001).
