The Parental Ripple
Like any mental health issue, anxiety is rooted in the biological make up (like the genes). However, a trigger is still required and environmental factors still play a major role. Anxious people are often anxious because of their parents’ behaviours. Although this can be done by having the parents be anxious, but other behaviours influence the anxiety levels of their children. Children are more likely to become anxious if their parents often criticize them, display plenty of doubt, and/or act emotionally numb or cold.
