8. Sleepy Hallucinations
So-called hypnagogic hallucinations, they occur during the transition from wakefulness to sleep (just after our head hits the pillow (Pappas, 2011). And hypnagogic hallucinations hit during the waking-up process (Pappas, 2011). People report hearing voices, feeling phantom sensations and see people or strange objects in their rooms (Pappas, 2011). This sleep disorder has garnered worldwide attention, and has been the subject to much folklore worldwide. This is oftentimes coupled with sleep paralysis, making the experience much more horrific!
